Getting your site live is just the first step, and it is important that you do everything you can to promote your site in order to get prospective pupils finding it.

There is a lot of confusion about how this is done and there are many well known companies that have made a lot of money by promising 'front page' rankings but very rarely come up with goods.

Where to be seen

When you advertise, you place your ads in publications that your target customers are likely to read. This could be your local paper, yellow pages or the local newsagent window.

When looking to be found online, you have to think a little about how you are going to be found. Ask your friends and family where they look when searching for anything on the internet and chances are they will use one of the main search engines such as Google or Yahoo. Surely this is where you should be looking to get your site found?

Getting your site found takes time but there are steps that can be taken to help improve your sites ranking.

Instant promotion

Having a website will open you up to a barrage of contacts from companies offering their site promotion services. Call me cynical, but from my own (expensive) experience and from speaking with clients, I have yet to hear of one that I would recommend at all.

The only paid service I do recommend is the Google Adwords campaign.

I have used this service myself and have found it extremely flexible, reasonably priced and effective. Once set up correctly it pretty much runs itself but you can make changes to budgets, keywords and any other part of the campaign as often as you like and best of all? If you don't need it any more, you just turn it off - there is no contract.

You can set this up yourself but I also offer a set up service. For a one off £30 fee, I take care of setting up the account, creating the ads and keywords and setting the budget that you would like to spend on advertising every month.
